Hair how to: Relaxed beachy waves with Tigi Salt Spray & John Frieda Sheer Blonde

I have a few posts coming up with ideas for different looks you can create with long hair over the party season… starting with relaxed, low maintenance tousled waves.  Strange as it may sound, I sometimes like to keep my hair looking natural when I’m really dressed up, in the same way as I’ll often apply soft, natural makeup with a glam dress and killer heels.  On the flipside, I love a bit of sparkle, bling or red lipstick teamed with jeans or a casual outfit…. get the balance right and the contrast just works!

1. I started by prepping my hair with John Frieda Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner.  Truth be told, it’s almost a year since I had any highlights (due this week in fact), but this duo still brightens and moisturises my hair without leaving it too soft and floppy, exactly what I wanted for this look.

2. I then spritzed my damp hair all over with Tigi Catwalk Salt Spray, rough dried it upside down until semi dry, then flipped back up - scrunching up the ends with my fingers on a low heat setting (you could use a diffuser for this if you have one).

3. When it was almost dry I added a little more Salt Spray for definition, scrunched the roots for added volume and allowed it to finish drying naturally. If I work at my hair too much at this stage, I find it gets worse instead of better. No brushes or combs were involved as they just make my hair fuzzy… I tend to brush through with my tangle teezer before washing when I’m doing a wavy/curly style.

That’s it… all very simple and only 5-10 mins effort. The final look was soft beachy waves with loose curls at the ends, aka the look that inspires my mother to pass me a brush. ;)

What do you think?  Next time I’ll create something a little more glam!
