New: Estee Lauder Doublewear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer

014

My skin doesn’t look its best in cold weather - I find my makeup doesn’t last as long; I look pale and blotchy and my nose is more reminiscent of Rudolph’s than my own.

I tend to opt for a foundation with more coverage than I use in Summer (which I’ll be blogging about soon) and have been on the lookout for a long lasting concealer.  I’d been meaning to try the original Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer, but my ears pricked up when I heard they’d released a new improved version: Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear.

Here’s what Estee Lauder says about it:

  • Looks flawless. Lasts 15-hours. Feels comfortable, never dry. Stays seamless, without creasing. Luminous finish
  • Lightweight crème formula creates the perfected look of flawless skin all day
  • Infused with minerals and emollients to condition skin and make blending easy
  • Transfer-resistant, colour-true formula provides medium buildable coverage that won't slip, slide or melt away
  • Oil-free, Fragrance-free. Water, perspiration and humidity-resistant
  • Dermatologist & Ophthalmologist-tested, spf10

I’m really impressed that this comes in 8 shades, from light to extra deep.  Only 3 were available in House of Fraser, Belfast where I purchased mine and I was torn between the pink toned Light and yellow toned Warm Light. I was colour matched as Light, 01, which I think was a good choice as I prefer a pink toned concealer for under eyes - I find it works best at camouflaging dark circles.

Close up of tube to try and convey the colour.

What I look for in concealer:

  • shadow cover for under eyes
  • concealer for around nose and chin
  • coverage for a couple of broken veins
  • lasting power

This does all of the above. I wanted a concealer that was definitely suitable for both the eye and face area, which this is.  It’s not a highlighter, but it does have luminosity. It doesn’t look thick and cakey (which Double Wear foundation does on me). The formula is thick and creamy, but not gloopy. It applies and blends very easily and a little goes a long way.

This photo was taken in the shade, so the colour looks darker than it actually is, but you get an idea of the creamy consistency and the soft doe wand. For hygiene reasons, I don’t use the wand directly on my face: I apply to the back of my hand then blend with a concealer brush (currently ELF) or my ring finger (for a light touch). I pat it onto my skin - and the little bit you can see on the end of the wand is usually enough for one full application.

The other concealers I use are Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer, By Terry, Clarins and Clinique.  I’ll do a separate post comparing them all another time if that’s something you’d be interested in?

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer costs £19.50, which isn’t cheap, but I honestly think you get what you pay for and reckon it will last a least a year. After a couple of week’s use I’m very happy with its performance… I don’t think it lasts the acclaimed 15hrs, but it is long lasting and covers shadows and imperfections without drying out the area, settling in lines or looking caked.
