Laura Mercier Fresh Fig perfume

When I woke up yesterday morning I suddenly realised that both me and my husband had forgotten our wedding anniversary. Yet again. We’ve been married for 5 years and I honestly don’t think either of us has ever remembered it! Shocking I know…
My lovely sister said she would look after the children so that we could go for a nice lunch and belated celebration…

We ended up having a gorgeous meal at the rather eclectic Made in Belfast restaurant in Cathedral Quarter.

I planned to take an OOTD pic but was in too much of a rush in the end! I wore my French Connection Stork print dress over Zara camel 7/8th skinnies and Rocha by John Rocha too-high-to-walk-in tan leather wedges.

And then we went shopping!

The perfume bit’s coming, honest!

While my husband looked at boy stuff, I skulked off to the make-up counters. I love shopping on Sundays as there are usually less staff around, so I had great fun playing!

Dior & Chanel = double gorgeousness!

I found the perfect combination of Dior Serum de Rouge in Radiant Pink No.560 with a slick of Chanel glossimer in Venus on top! Sadly I didn’t have a spare £45 for this luscious combo so just pretended they were mine for the day!

I made a beeline for the Laura Mercier counter. Sadly they didn’t yet have the new crayon liners in stock, but there was plenty of other loveliness to play with…

I’m smitten with the baked eyeshadow in Black Karat and the beauty advisor showed me how gorgeously this applies when wet. It is breathtakingly beautiful on the skin and lasted immaculately until I removed it.  I have the Laura Mercier Black Gold eyeliner which would be gorgeous with this applied lightly, but it would be amazing worn alone as a dramatic liner if applied wet.

And then I spotted the perfume…

I love figgy fragrances and had read about Laura Mercier’s fig perfume, but never smelt it in person.  This stuff is the perfume of goddesses, princesses and well… beauty bloggers from Belfast.

This is a gentle, sensual, soft ‘skin’ smell.  Fresh and clean but without an iota of sharpness. It reminds me a little of the aftermath of baking – comforting  hints of vanilla and caramel (but not sickly so – yuck!) – counter balanced with juicy fig, sandlewood and musk.  It’s not an in your face smell at all, but it is sexy. Oh so sexy!

Here’s what Laura Mercier has to say about it…

“Fresh Fig Eau de Toilette is a rich, intoxicating fine fragrance that is reminiscent of a fresh, clean linen experience. The indulgent burst of juicy citrus notes blended with Sweet Mission Figs and dewy fruit bouquets provide a sweet femininity. The creamy notes of Apricot Nectar and Ylang-Ylang give the scent a smooth sensuality.
The lingering notes are a delicious combination of warm, rich Vanilla, exotic Sandalwood and Fig Musk that create a decadent gourmande fragrance.”

It was a tough choice between this and Narciso Rodriguez Eau de Musc, which I will hopefully acquire at a later date! And don’t even start me on the new range of Jo Malone colognes at £80 a pop. *sigh*

I made the right choice. I’ve been spraying this all day and sniffing my wrist non stop. Totally swoonsome…

(So much for my recent post about only having one fragrance!  Though in all honesty I so rarely find one that I like that it’s just impossible to resist when I do!)

Laura Mercier Eau Gourmande Fresh Fig costs £41 at House of Fraser.

ps I got the last bottle in my local store.  Another lady sprayed it just before me and went upstairs ‘to think about it’ – the sales assistant told me to make a sharp exit before she got back! *evil giggle*

Maybe for my next anniversary I’ll get the full set of body products to match!

  1. Thanks for the great review, which will, of course, make it very difficult for me. I recevied a mini Fig hand cream in one of my LM purchases, and I really loved the smell. I agree it smells clean, like white linens in the sun.

  2. Oh I too am on a fragrance hunt and I am lusting after the Le Labo Bergamote. It will make me smell a bit like an old man....but a dashing old man sounds great to me!

  3. Happy anniversary gorgeous! Oh, this sounds right up my street, fresh yet sexy...must resist, I must resist *takes deep breath* - will have to at least have a sniff, that is all! xx

  4. Happy Anniversary :) Oooh that baked eye shadow looks amazing! And the perfume sounds gorgeous! I love anything that smells of vanilla!

  7. Hey sweetie, tut tut, both of you forgetting, too!! Happy Anniversary (belated) to you both.

Now, the perfume - I am quite intrigued to smell it but I'm sure I wont like it. I rarely do like other people's choices but very very occasionally one comes along...

D'you know if LM send samples out??

    TIA xxxxxxxxxxxx

  8. Nic you have such a fantastic way with words when you're describing fragrance, it sounds divine. Happy anniversary by the way. Jude xx @jadlgw

  9. Happy Anniversary! :) Me & my hubby have also been married 5 years (15th July) but we aren't doing anything until this weekend :O ;) I must give that perfume a sniff... I love the bath & body products. You must get 'Oh, Lola!' next! ;) x

  10. Happy anniversary!! Great haul, I prefer shopping for make up when there's less staff too lol!! xx

  11. lol V sorry hon I thought I had replied - durrr!! I'm not sure if Laura Mercier send samples out - you may have more joy in Space NK or House of Fraser, but it's worth sending LM an email to check for sure. Sorry that I can't be of more help but next time I'm in those stores I'll try and get you one.

Thanks to all of you for your comments and good wishes!

I also forgot to say that the perfume was my anniversary pressie from hubs - double durrr!

    Nic xx
