Hydraluron Moisture Boost Mask: Review

Hydraluron-Moisture-Boost-Mask

If you suffer from dry or dehydrated skin, you might like to check out Hydraluron Moisture Boost Mask - the latest release by Indeed Labs, makers of the original Hydraluron.

This new mask uses a 3D time released hyaluronic acid (aka mega moisture) to treat dry and dehydrated skin, providing up to 24 hours of deep moisturisation.  Slower release of hyaluronic acid over time provides an extended feeling of plumpness and hydration.

The box contains four sachets, which I assumed would be filled with product, but they actually contain a face shaped piece of gauze/muslin soaked in product.  I removed all make-up, tied back my hair and lay down before unfolding the mask and placing it on my face.  You could actually sit up as it moulds to your skin (and stays wet), but it’s so rare that I lay still for 15mins I wasn’t gonna turn down the chance!  There are peepholes for the eyes, nostrils and mouth, so you can read or watch TV if you wish - and I see no reason why you couldn’t leave the mask on for longer.

My mask after use (sorry), but I wanted to let you see how it looked!

After 15mins I removed the mask, massaged the remaining serum into my skin (and rubbed the remainder over my neck, backs of hands and feet (didn’t want to waste a drop!).  I then applied moisturiser and relaxed.  I wasn’t sure what to expect, but must admit my skin was glowing today. My moisturiser didn’t disappear on contact with my skin and I honestly looked like I had applied some kind of highlighting/glowy product (I hadn’t).  This gets a big thumbs up from me as a weekly or pre-special occasion treat. It would also be amazing after a long haul flight.

Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask is 100 percent free from animal-derived raw materials and organic solvent remnants. It costs £19.99 for four masks (20ml) and is available exclusively instore or online at Boots here.

SOS Special Occasion Skincare

It’s all too easy to let the skincare routine slide at this time of year and slip into a party-slump-party cycle, where anything requiring too much effort feels like a no-no.  Whether you’ve been neglecting your skin amid festivities, have a special occasion coming up, or want to undo post-party damage, these are the products I turn to for skin solace.

As a self-confessed skincare junkie, these options may be more than you’re looking for, so if you only take away one element of all this, let it be the 3 key steps: deep cleanse, (re)hydrate and nourish.

The Treatments

I’ve been kicking off with a weekly late night double mask session. I start by deep cleansing with Clayspray Pore Refining White Clay mask (currently on offer at Feel Unique), which acts as an exfoliant while drawing deeply embedded impurities to the surface (nice!).  Despite the name, this is more ‘clay pump or squirt’ than spray - you basically squirt it into your palm, spread a layer over the face and rinse off with a warm flannel when dry - genius and really quick and easy.

I then go in with a deep hydrating mask like Avene Soothing Moisture Mask (currently 20% off at Escentual).  I’ve been adding an extra layer of moisture under my regular moisturiser with either Hydraluron - aka hyaluronic acid (serious moisture) in a tube, or Murad Pore & Line Minimizing Hydrator - a deliciously light textured hyaluronic acid packed hydrator that minimises pores, treats minor breakouts and generally makes my thirsty face swoon!

Several times a week I’ll top this up with one of my favourite discoveries of the year, Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil.  A few drops of this massaged into my skin produces double take in the mirror results next morning, every time - softer, smoother, more plumped and rested skin - this is definitely one of the best facial oils I’ve used, at half the price of most.

Daily Cleanse & Hydrate

A quicky late night cleanse is fine once in a while, but your skin will thank you for regular thorough cleansing and other products will perform even better.  There’s no need to use anything too harsh - I’ve been cleansing with Pai Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser for a couple of months now and find it particularly soothing when my skin is playing up.  It’s packed with skin-kind ingredients that nourish without irritating and the creamy texture is easy to remove with a warm, damp flannel, leaving no residue.

Pixi Glow Tonic is the most gentle exfoliating toner I’ve come across, yet still tackles those pesky under skin bumps and blocked pores. One quick swipe with a few pumps on a cotton pad is all it takes - I get mine directly from the Carnaby St store in London, where it’s available to purchase by phone.  I picked up La Roche Posay Serozinc in France last year and now save it for when my skin needs an extra boost of soothing hydration. I lean back and spritz this so that the mist falls down onto my face and not a drop is wasted. Please LRP, bring this to the UK!  If you don’t have this, I rate the facial spritzes by Avene or Balance Me for an extra layer of hydration before applying moisturiser.

Pre-Make-up Nourishing

Skin prep is key to how your make-up performs and this super-lux trio creates the perfect balance for me.  I begin with a layer of A-lister favourite, BeautyLab London Black Diamond Energizing Serum, containing actual black diamond and multiple peptides to plump, smooth and add luminosity.  This gives my skin a great pre make-up glow without tacky residue, available at Harvey Nichols here.

I follow this with a hyaluronic acid packed duo of DELAROM Objectif Jeunesse Lifting Cream and Eye Contour Lifting Serum.  The creation of Christine Benet - product developer for Darphin and Decleor for 20 years - this new paraben-free range is packed with ingredients to help revitalize, detoxify and balance the skin - tick, tick, tick!  Its sleekly packed, skin plumping, velvety texture is devine and an absolute pleasure to use.  My skin is loving it and I’m excited by this range made with simple, yet highly effective ingredients.  Five collections address individual skin needs and are exclusive to Urban Retreat Beautique.

If this sounds like a whole lotta skincare, just remember the 3 key steps: deep cleanse, hydrate and nourish. Some of these products were sent for review and may be outside the average skincare budget, so please feel free to leave a comment below or email me if you’re looking for lower cost alternatives.

3 Moisturisers for Sensitive Skins: Dr Hauschka, Pai & Organic Surge

106

Hello everyone, I’ve missed being here & chatting with you all. Three days feels like a long time for me to be away from my blog, ridic as that may sound.  Today I want to talk about three great moisturisers for sensitive skins.  While I don’t think my own skin is particularly sensitive, it occasionally suffers from product overload through testing so much skincare to review on these pages.  I then feel the need to strip things back to a very gentle, simple procedure and show my wee face some extra tlc.  That’s where these guys roll in, so I thought it might be helpful for you to hear about them.

Dr Hauschka Melissa Day Cream - This award-winning product is designed to meet the needs of sensitive combination skins, soothing redness and moisturising where needed. Rich in lemon balm and herb extracts, it smells amazing and feels gentle and fresh on my skin.  All ingredients used in Dr.
Hauschka products are cultivated under fair trade conditions.  I’ve recently discovered that the brand produces makeup products too - have any of you tried them?

Pai Chamomile & Rosehip Sensitive Skin Cream - I bought this just after Christmas time when my skin had taken the toll of over indulgence and was practically squealing ‘no more selection boxes!’ In recent months I’d also developed a Rudolph situation, in that my nose would get red and hot when I’m stressed or after a glass of wine!  The jury is still out on whether this could be Rosacea or some kind of allergic reaction, but it’s pretty horrible and I hoped this product might help. Admittedly I haven’t been good at using it consistently to see if it helps with that just yet, but it is beautifully soothing. I hold Pai Skincare in the highest esteem and always send sensitive skin sufferers in their direction. A special thank you to Sarah, its founder, for her patient advice on my nose situation!

Organic Surge Blissful Daily Moisturiser - Made with 94% naturally derived ingredients and certified organic extracts, this lightweight moisturiser contains a blend of hydrators and antioxidants  including essential lemon, rosemary, sweet orange and sweet almond oils.  Despite this range of lovely ingredients, its fragrance is barely distinguishable, which will appeal to many.  It sinks into my skin instantly, unlike some natural products, leaving a perfect base for makeup.  This entire range is brilliantly priced for the quality and ethical production.

Hydraluron

Blessed with skin that tends towards dryness, I’d normally reach for richer products, but when it feels a little fragile, I much prefer lighter textures that won’t overload it or leave any residue. If I do feel the need for extra hydration, I just layer Hydraluron Moisture Booster underneath (detailed review coming soon).

If you’d like to read more about why I think it’s important to Give Your Skin a Break, I wrote a guest post on the subject on Modesty Brown’s blog here, one of my fave reads - well worth a visit and a follow!

I have lots of new products to write about this week, which I’m excited to share with you… ohhhh!  Hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend (I’m still full of roast chicken & spuds!) xx
