Evening Skincare Routine

It’s been a while since I shared an update on my evening skincare routine, so here’s a round up of what I’ve been reaching for recently…

The Staples

I always begin with make-up removal using my old faithful Bioderma and a cotton pad before moving on to the main cleanse. For this, I’ve recently been loving Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm, which gets gold stars from lots of my favourite beauty buffs. If you’re new to balms and fancy trying one, this is a great place to start - it’s a bit lighter than some, making it easy to use (less gloop!), is well priced and comes in a convenient lightweight tube. It leaves my skin feeling completely clean and comfortable. I like this lots!

I then pat in a dot of DMK Eye Tone with my ring finger. This is unusual as it’s designed for all around the eye area, not just the orbital bone where I’d usually apply. It leaves my eye area feeling soft and well hydrated - not sure about the wrinkle reduction bit just yet but I’ll report back!

Enter the star of the show…

REN V-cense Revitalising Night Cream is the new name for REN’s much loved (re-packaged and re-named) Frankincense Revitalising Night Cream. I’m a complete convert to this product. I’ve tried other REN moisturisers that weren’t quite nourishing enough for me, but this one is perfect in every way. It smells divine (hello frankincense), feels deeply nourishing and leaves my skin feeling amazing. I may have been known to use it in the day time too, though it’s probably a bit rich for that - really must pick up the matching day cream!

The Extras

Sometimes regular style toners just don’t feel like enough and when my skin needs a deep down, massage-in drink, I reach for Living Nature Extra Hydrating Toning Gel. Specifically designed to meet the needs of dehydrated, mature skin - tick tick - I find this super soothing and refreshing.

A few nights a week I’ll give my skin a top up with a layer of Circaroma Rose Otto Skin Gentle Facial Serum under my moisturiser.  Although labelled a serum, this is actually more of an oil-like consistency due to rose otto, frankincense and patchouli essential oils alongside hydrating apricot, jojoba and rosehip seed. When you wake up in the morning, stroke your cheek and think ohhh velvety… you’re onto a good thing.

I recently learned that beauty products containing collagen are unable to offer long term benefits as the collagen molecule is too large to penetrate the skin, so when we cleanse, it’s gone. Ever innovative, Dr Murad has discovered a way to break collagen down into its components of amino acids which can penetrate skin and the result is Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion… I’ve only tried minis of this product (it doesn’t come cheap), but so far - I’m impressed!

If I had to pare this lot down to just two items, Merumaya and REN would be the ones!

Have you tried any of these products?
